Fayette Cares Ministry Opportunities

1.  Welfare Checks:
Fayette Cares has clients in need of weekly welfare checks.  This could be a phone call or a visit.  An in-person visit requires a team of at least two volunteers.  Those who step forward would not be expected to solve problems.  They’d be the eyes and ears of Fayette Cares.

2.  Transportation:
Fayette Cares is also looking for a team of two volunteers to transport clients to appointments around the county or in Memphis.  This is on an “as needed” basis and is infrequent.  They are looking for a pool of volunteers to draw from when the need arises.

3.  Gardening:
There is a garden plot of raised beds on the grounds of Fayette Cares.  It is not in very good shape at the present time.  The garden needs to be rethought and rehabilitated so that it will be beautiful and productive once again.  We need volunteers for the various stages of planning, rebuilding, planting and maintaining the beds throughout the season.  This project has been COMPLETED.
Click HERE to view a photo gallery of the project.

4.  Maintenance and Repair:
Fayette Cares has ongoing needs for facility maintenance and repair.  Some projects need funding, some need skilled or semi-skilled laborers, and some need volunteers who are just willing to get their hands dirty.

5.  “Feed the Hungry” Food Distribution
Twice monthly, St. Philip partners with the Gleaners, a ministry of Collierville United Methodist Church and Trader Joe’s, to pick up food donations for delivery to clients of Fayette Cares.  A team of volunteers travels to Trader Joe’s on the assigned days, picks up the donation and brings it back to St. Philip.  Additional volunteers gather to sort and pack the food for delivery to individual clients in housing complexes in and around Somerville.

6.  There are year-round involvement opportunities to support Fayette Cares events.  Volunteers can assist on event day or with planning and leadership for efforts including a spring plant sale and golf tournament, summer vineyard experience, fall gala, Christmas food and toy giving program and more.

I invite you to prayerfully discern if the Lord is inviting you to serve the community by volunteering at Fayette Cares.
