Eucharist
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world (Jn 6:51).”
“It was above all on “the first day of the week,” Sunday, the day of the Jesus’ resurrection, that the Christians met “to break bread.” From that time on down to our own day the celebration of the Eucharist has been continued so that today we encounter it everywhere in the Church with the same fundamental structure. It remains the center of the Church’s life (CCC, 1343).” At this Church, First Holy Communion is normally received in the 3rd grade. Parents are invited to enroll their children in the Parish Religious Education program. The family will be informed when their child will receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time at the beginning of the PRE year. If the young person is in high school and still needs to receive First Communion they are invited to contact the Director of Religious Education. We will ensure they are prepared and receive the Holy Eucharist in a worthy manner. Adults that would like to receive the Holy Eucharist are invited to enroll in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Please contact Deacon Mike Blomè at (901) 569-8183. It is essential that parents model devotion to the Holy Eucharist by attending Mass every Sunday, going to Confession regularly, praying before the Blessed Sacrament frequently, and genuflecting when they enter and leave the pews so as to demonstrate reverence for the Bread of Life; sometimes more is caught than taught. At this parish, there are no godparents for First Holy Communion. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease.” - St. John Paul II We currently have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday of the month after the 12:00 Noon Mass until 7:00 PM. Come let us adore Him! To have your child enrolled in the PRE Program, or to request further information, please contact the Parish office at (901) 465-8685. |
